Explorations

While exploring a beach in Southern Maine, I bumped into a fellow sight-caster. It was Joe Conklin of the Fountain Dweller site and blog. Joe and I spent several hours stalking wild striped bass in the crystal clear water and talking fly fishing on the beautiful pale-sandy flat. I can't think of a better way to spend a summer afternoon.

The fish and their behavior, pristine surroundings and our skill and creativity in the choice of flies and tackle are just one part of the equation. We often forget that it is us humans and our interaction which complete the full circle known as fly fishing. Without this link, fly fishing could easily become a lost art.

Vlad,

Waaay cool picture of the flatfish (Flounder??). Really neat looking shot man.

Your pics. are very colorful. Always have been. I love that.

Thanks Jeremy,

I tend to overuse the color in my photos, but I am glad you like it. The fish is a windowpane flounder...very pretty species and almost translucent. My first on the fly.

Hope you are enjoying the summer. It's been a strange one here, with very unsettling weather.
