Bass Rod

I just finished this short bass/warmwater/lite saltwater rod. It is an 8 footer, for lines #7 or 8. Being a fan of graphite Fuji reel seats and screw-lock fighting butt configuration, I used similar components for many saltwater flyrods I built in the past. This rod looks very utilitarian in its appearance, but it feels like it will be a fun casting and (hopefully) fish-catching tool.

Hey Vlad,

Nice to see your new work! Fabulous!! Similar awesome and elegant style!.. but never the same.
The lower fighting butt looks so pretty!

I think shorter rod for streamer fishing is a great idea. They feel light but still generate very high line speed for big fly. Very cool Bro!

Thanks, Mark!

I am glad you like it...I tried it yesterday on the grass, but not on the water yet. It is a fun rod to cast. I just haven't done much fishing this fall-went once with a friend to chase some pike and bass, and that was it. We had some cold weather earlier, but it is nice again.

Hope things are going well...

Hey Vlad,

I really enjoy your blog, great work. I was wondering where you got the blank? I really like the color of the blank, and the fact that it isn't a big name rod. thanks Vlad!

Hello Phillip!

I guess I forgot to mention that in my post... It is Cabela's Tradition II blank, 8' #5. This model is mislabeled, and it casts 7and 8wt lines really well. They are currently on sale, too.

Thanks for stopping by,

Vlad

Vlad,

Thanks for the info. I ordered one and it came today, just putting the blank together, you can feel this thing is a friggin cannon. Thanks for the insight on the rod, I have a feeling it will make a very dutiful warm water rod. It also doesn't have the price tag of the other warm water rods. Once again, thank you Vlad for pointing me in the direction of this rod!

Phillip,

You're welcome! Glad you liked the blank... I also thought it was a "pocket rocket" and a very decent performer, especially for the price.

Best,

Vlad
