I just noticed the flatwing has produced very good action in striper fishing. Usually I am a big fan of marabou tail, but my friend just introduced some deceiver and flatwing style saltwater flies to me recently. I am hooked with those hackle feathers. I think they maintain certain profile in the water and I really like the tapered shape. : )
Thanks Mark...I love flatwings. As you said, they maintain awesome profile, with very little bulk, so you can cast them easy with lighter line. The feathers move sideways while the fly is swimming, so it looks very irresistible to fish.
Mark, one day we have to fish for stripers together, that would be fun! ;-)
Ha... I wish I can make a trip up there this year. I have lot's to learn in striper fishing : )
Maybe next year we can make the trip happen! By then, you will have a switch rod ready and I probably have obtained the "ultimate" striper rod build by Musicar! : )
Mark, to fish for stripers, we would have to plan a trip to Boston, which would be a lot of fun. And switch rods would be the thing! I found little more about Batson switch blanks, and I am still wondering if I should go little heavier than 5wt (maybe 6 or even 7 if they are softer rods...) It is so hard to know without holding the blank just to feel it... not too many comments about them.
