Thanks Bill… I used Krylon Fusion spray paint for plastic for shells. I did a bunch of shrimp shells in flat camo sand color, and decided to give some of them a quick mist with ginger-rust. I liked the speckled look, so I decided to do a few larger ones for lobster. The best way to do them is to paint the uncut straw with the dominant color and spray the contrasting paler color on one side only. Once the paint is dry (it dries fast), slice the pale belly lengthwise and finish shaping the rest of the shell.
Yes...I used waterproof superglue, even though PE can't be glued well with regular glues. Now I tend to rib flies with 25lb fluoro...makes them more durable.

Vlad,
Nice shrimp and lobster using the drinking straw topping. Do I detect a little airbrushing (COPIC?) on the lobster?

Vlad,
Awesome fly! Did you epoxy the straw onto the body? -Peyton
