Somewhere in the limestone country of eastern Serbia, I found a little stream that disappears into the earth. I looked around its Ranunculus beds and saw no trout. But the water goes underground, and somewhere downstream a remarkable karst spring emerges with an exceptional wild, native trout population.
Is there a connection?
Perhaps. One day I'll find out.
