Explorations
While exploring a beach in Southern Maine, I bumped into a fellow sight-caster. It was Joe Conklin of the Fountain Dweller site and blog. Joe and I spent several hours stalking wild striped bass in the crystal clear water and talking fly fishing on the beautiful pale-sandy flat. I can't think of a better way to spend a summer afternoon.
The fish and their behavior, pristine surroundings and our skill and creativity in the choice of flies and tackle are just one part of the equation. We often forget that it is us humans and our interaction which complete the full circle known as fly fishing. Without this link, fly fishing could easily become a lost art.

Sight Casting Fever Strikes Again
Productive day on the flats today: we caught a few fish (5/6wt rod), and it was also great to see a pair of Manx Shearwaters, among other birds. (If you are a birdwatcher, you might find this article interesting.)

Conquistador Fly Rod
Welcome to the dark and decadent side of carved grips! "Conquistador" is a light stick for strong fish.
